Sheffield
I'm sorry I still haven't commented on the really interesting shifts in Japanese right-wing ideology (see articles below). My working hours are ridiculous, and when I get home at night I am too spangled to even blog. Sad but true. I watch America's Next Top Model instead. With broadband I received about a dozen digital TV channels, and there is always something on. It's quite distracting, and initially we decided not to add them the broadband package. However, it turned out to be cheaper to get the channels and broadband rather than just broadband. It's a case of twisted business maths I simply don't get. How can it possibly ever be profitable to sell more for less? It's obviously in someones interest to make us watch more television.
I have taken a few days off work in order to go to Sheffield, the rough gem of Yorkshire (emphasis on the adjective 'rough'). No, just kidding. Sheffield is a sweet place. I loved the teaching at ShefU, and I can't commend the School of East Asian Studies there enough. Another issue altogether is wether they'd want to be publicly endorsed by me.
This blog is celebrating its first anniversary in the coming week. Article Nine has taught me a lot about internet and blogging communities, HTML, and so much more. That's another issue I should blog on. Oh, and I have finally received hits from China and Africa. Hello! You can see all my visitors on the clickable map on the left.
I will engage myself in this blog, Japanese politics and my studies soon enough, I just needed to leave my brain on the hat rack for a few months and enjoy life as an irresponsible wage-earner. I will now quote Russel Crowe, of all people. He once said that in between films he lets himself 'lie fallow', before it's time for him to get his arse back in gear for the next film and his status as a Hollywood star. It's a great expression. I've been lying fallow, just gathering energy and not giving a sh*t about anything much; eating and drinking far too much and spending nights in watching America's Next Top Model and actually caring about who wins. It's been wonderful, but I'm slowly getting bored. I think I might visit a few textbooks this weekend, just to prepare for getting my arse back in gear. There's nothing like reading a big, fat textbook on Chinese history on a cold October night. I'll concentrate on the formation of a Chinese state through the emergence of the bureaucracy. Captivating stuff. No, I really mean it.
